Well I think that everyone seemed to enjoy the shark diving the other night (and fortunately everything went to plan: apart from the lights going off at the beginning!) 
A real shame that Sarah wasn't well enough to dive: but we'll hopefully get another trip scheduled at some point to allow her & others to experience it. Blog We all arrived nice & early & met in the car park. Fortunately, there's a lift to allow the kit to be taken straight down to tank-side. After everyone got everything transported down, we had a pre-dive briefing from the staff. They checked our medical forms & qualification cards (not very thoroughly it has to be said  ). The first wave got kitted: Gus, a couple from Dunfermline SAC & me. We floated our kit in the tank & climbed in to don the sets. All did a buoyancy check to make sure that we were overweighted: fins aren't used in there so the divers have to walk around. Quick buddy check & we were raring to go. Unfortunately we had to then wait about 15 min as the lights in the aquarium had been turned off by the timer, so they needed to warm up again. At this point, we were dying to get in.
Eventually, it became light & the 2 guides joined us. One led us down the shotline while the other followed the group. The max depth was only 3m. We walked alongside the acrylic tunnel & it was amazing to see all of the spectators. At the end of the tunnel we jumped over. The viz wasn't as great as I expected: maybe 10-15 m. Got some really close encounters with the sand tigers & lots of rays & dogfish & the occasional angel shark & wrasse. The sand tigers certainly are a good length: about 3 metres. They appeared to me completely inanimate: there's no spark of life evident in their eyes - almost like robots! 
All too soon, the dive was over after 29 min in the balmy 12 °C water. We got dekitted while the congeralley.com & remaining DSAC divers went in. The final wave comprised the SUSAC elite: Sam, Helen, Laura & Bastien. Maybe one of them would like to comment on their dive experience… Refreshments afterwards at DSAC’s club house in Dalgety Bay: ad lib food & drink (including beer!) and we all admired their RHIB. Hopefully might get some diving organised with them in the future! Thanks to everyone that took part! |

No worries Scott. I definitely want to go and there's loads of people who are nearly trained etc who might be persuaded. It'll be our turn SOON!
