Dry Suit Storage

There seems to be a bit of me that thinks what latex wrist and neck seals like best is a cool dark place.

Unfortunatly ours are kept in an often baking room and some are directly below a lovely roof light which gives the place a nice ambience when you walk in.

This situation is far from ideal. a bad time to notice such things when we can least afford to do much but there are seals which are degrading a lot quicker than i think they should.

i noticed that the red russian suit is in need of a neck seal and i think this was in an ok state at mid-semester. others who tried to wear it may know to the contrary.

seems like a shame to block of the roof light or anything but i think it is well worth keeping in mind to avoid the area direclty below the window particularly in summer.

a real equipment storing question now.

when things say keep out of direct sunlight this i assume will be to prevent uv degredation. thus shade is good
but also behind glass should be suitable as uv will not pass through glass yet for the likes of latex seals will the intense heat not damage it too?

i.e. is there actually any problems with keeping drysuits directly below the roof light in the cage?

Me thinks the main problem with the seals is the heat in that room rather than the light, it will just be uber-drying them out. Not much we can do really as I think the radiator in there is the 'overflow' for the boiler.

Could we get them in the compressor room, very dark and damp in there!

Will investigate...........

I think the administrator wanted to be witty and original. Do we progress to being increasingly large sea mammals eventually I wonder? Shocked How soon will I be a sea lion?

I'm going to be crazy here and make an on topic post Very Happy

If everyone's worried about the latex seals drying out and getting all busted up, maybe we should talk them up (non-[erfumed of course) when they go back in the cage.
Frazer

As discussed before the summmer, when we go back, we're gonna gut the cage out and tidy it up and organise it etc. (in theory anyway). We can sort this problem out, along with everything else when we get back

Glad to see you're chatting to your equipment Shug. I think we'll stick to talc in Planet Airth Cool

i personnally think that talcing then after each dive or the day after is already a good thing to start doing. i KNow in the summer in france i talc mine after everydive as its roasting hot.
