Sorry that I forgot to write up a blog of this trip previously
Gus and I tagged along with the Stirling club for their dive of this famous drift dive at the mouth of Loch Etive under the Connel Bridge. For those who don't know, there is a very strong tidal surge at this point as the vast volume of water from the loch (up to 120m deep in places) floods through a narrow channel.
We aimed to dive it at slack water, giving us a chance to explore the area under the bridge (with drop-offs going down to 30m apparently). But by the time we got in the water, the tide was ebbing, preventing us from being able to get under the bridge.
The current was pretty strong: Gus & I were hanging on to the rocks by our fingertips - trying to not get separated. Our gloves and fingertips were thoroughly excoriated by the end Although we drifted a fair distance during our ascent, we still managed to get out at the jetty and didn't require to get scooped out of the water by the club's RIB.
After lunch we headed up to L. Creran. We had a pleasant dive except for me being stung on the upper lip by a jellyfish... ouch
Would definitely like to repeat the experience again, but perhaps without the jellyfish component
