Mid-semester 08

right, i've been having a think about next semesters training trip.
dot suggested that rather than booking the chalter for the full week, how about doing 2 long weekends at either end?? still gives us sat/sun/monday diving at the start and then the fri/sat/sun diving at the end. first of all it gives people more options, it will be cheaper than going away for the whole week, and it means instructors only have to take the monday and maybe a friday off their work. we could book a bus for the full period and use it as/when we need. if there are enuf ppl to warrant a trip during the week then we have the bus.
also rather than using the chalets at cologin (which are nice and handy etc but a bit pricey), how about a youth hostel in inveraray or somewhere??still close to air, pubs and very cheap!!
i know its early but i would like to at least hear opinions on it just now.

does that mean that there will be two seperate groups going on the two seperate weekends?

not necesarrily, the idea is just to giv people a bit more flexibility, and also to giv the instructors a bit of a break!! alot of people are wary of going away for a full week aswell!

I'd be intrested in going along. However trainees should take priority over us qualified lot. Find a use for us Cool Very Happy

Sounds good to me, only trouble with a hostel would be the lack of places to put kit to dry (unless they have an area!?).

What are the dates?

Classes finish on friday the 28th of March and start again on monday the 7th of April.

the kit thing might be an issue, it may be something we'll have to work around. if its only for a couple of days then it might not be too bad.

well when we were diving kenmoore a few weeks ago edinburgh uni stayed at the youth hostel in inverary and they had kit (Obviously)

so i imagine the youth hostel is used to divers...and can cope with kit? might be an idea to phone and see

i hate writing essays

I'd be interested in one of those weekends (once I check my busy diary). Might be an idea to try for two different venues for the odd person who goes on both.

Hey all, has anyone had any more thoughts about mid semester I would be interested in diving the first weekend sat/sun anyway maybe fri and mon as well if work lets me off.

once again i've been landed with organising this....even though im away until mid-march!! Confused
will be guaging numbers etc when everyones bk, if we're using the hostel in inveraray i need to know exact numbers as they do it on a per person basis unlike before when we've jus hired a chalet and squeezed people in whenever and wherever!! we'll book the bus for the full week and a bit anyway so we def have transport. also need to find out trainee wise whos wanting to go and get them through their pool stuff!!
joe

Defo me
charlie

are you going to Oban again?
Scotty Boy

i believe that was the original plan, but im open to ideas! i think we'll be based in iveraray for the two weekends as it'll be easier for any outside instructors to join up with us, for during the week it depends whos driving and how far they want to go!!

Guys
I'd like to attend if I can get some training with my drysuit prior to March ( loads of time I know ).  I'm also happy to take my car or 4x4 if you need additional transport.  I couldn't make both weekends but if others want to do a single weekend and then get a lift back, I'm happy to help

just sent this email out, not sure if i got everyones address though so take a gander!!

Righteeo!! mid-semester this year is Saturday 29th March to Sunday 6th
April inclusive. My current thinking is to stay in Inveraray the 2
weekends as its quite central to lots of good dive sites ({Sat 29th and
Sunday 30th, with diving saturday, sunday and monday} and {Friday 4th and
Saturday 5th with diving the friday saturday and sunday}) this basically
means that the instructors dont have to take as much time off work, and
we're more likely to get help from Regional Instructors. we'll hopefully
be staying at the hostel in Inveraray. I hope to be able to book the bus
from Friday the 28th March through to Monday the 7th of April. this means
that we have the bus for during the week if anyone wants to go diving.

COULD ANYONE WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO DRIVE THE BUS PLEASE GET YO ASSES DOWN TO
THE SPORTS UNION AND HAND THEIR LICENSES IN AS WE ARE MAD SHORT OF
DRIVERS!!

i'll chase them up this week and ask for our drivers to be rushed through
if possible!!

trainees- if your definetely up for coming then let me know by the start
of semester so we can sort out numbers and instructors!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and
get you through pool skills!!!!!!

i'm not sure about cost but i think the hostel is around 15 quid a night
per person and everyone will pay a share of the bus costs and kit hire!

i think thats everything for the moment, if i think of anything else i'll
let you know!

peace out!

Will we have the hostel to ourselves?

Count me in for both weekends if possible Smile
Liam

Also is this said hostel?

I assume they'll allow group books but on the website it only allows you to book 9 people at one time.

Hey all, just a little tip for all you newbeeies bring a hat with you to wear in between dives to keep you warm. Lots of spare socks are also a good idea. Don't forget to bring some £1 coins with you for filling tanks with from the compressor.

Happy diving, see 1st weekend people at the cage 4pm on Friday.

Erika
Sam

Safe diving first weekenders.
