overseas membershipHi guys,
Hope all is good with you all in glorious Scotia.
Things are going well with us here. We have our house & the kids have started school... learning in Norwegian!
I haven't been doing so much diving in since they came over in July but have been out a few times in the last couple of weeks. Last dive was on Thursday night beside an island called Hellesøy (Hell Island ). The club now have 3 club boat dives per week .
Anyway, I have just got in our renewal notice for ScotSAC membership. When I was still in Scotland, I discussed with Joe, Gus & some others about Sarah & I remaining SUSAC members. We would like to do so as we have an affection for the club. Who knows, maybe we will be back sometime. Also, if I am a member, I would be allowed to instruct your members either in Scotland (I will be at Stirling a few times a year for work) or if you visit here for some Master Diver training in the fjords or North Sea! Anyway, please let me know if it is still OK for us to put SUSAC as our branch.
Skål!

I'm also very much interested in this as (like Charlie), I have an emotional attachment to ScotSAC and would like to keep my membership with them rather than crossing over to PADI. I also live in hope of coming back there to dive and maybe even continue my training. I vaguely remember e-mailing ScotSAC at one point and they said that it wouldn't be a problem. I lost the e-mail though so I have nothing to back up this wild claim of optimism.
By the way, nice to hear from you again Charlie!

Oh, things are going great. I won't go so far as to say that vet school is treating me well, that's just not it purpose, but I've never had more fun in my life. No diving here though...
I'm applying to the Aquavet program next summer. Eight weeks of courses on how to take care of fish, seals, whales, and everything in between. We had a vet come and talk to us recently about some of the research he was doing in Alaska. They were trying to catch seals and weren't having much luck on land. Then one of the divers said, "Hey, we can catch those guys underwater!" They rigged up a noose attached to a buoy and got some great pictures lassoing seals. And there was me sitting there thinking, "I want that job."
Yeah, I went diving with a few PADIs. I wasn't impressed. Dive plan? What dive plan?
So how are things in Norge?

I would like Sarah to be in SUSAC but not in the club... not again!

Yeah, I don't think you'd want to go through that again...

Hey Charlie,
Didn't cheeky join as a general member, which meant that he was still able to instruct when trainees went his way?

What, start his own club? McGurk Divers has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

Nice one, guys
As a branch instructor, you can only instruct members of your branch. If you join General Branch you cannot instruct anyone (legally)
Regional instructors can instruct any ScotSAC member. Has Dot finished her RI training yet?

i didnt want to say anything but i was sure the general branch is particularly useless for instructing, but very good for avoiding instructing as cheeky was after methinks.
cheers
good to hear from you Dr Mcgurk glad you and life in Norge are good, Skal
