Summer 08

Thought I may try and help organise a diving trip in June (Not going away until the 25th of June) next year for it's low season cheapness and less business.
Who thinks where?
Maybe a holiday with a little less diving than before but still a lot of diving?

Croatia?
Malta?
Morocco?
Egypt?
Skegness?
Scotty Boy

Malta is apparently quite good, wouldnt mind croatia or the red sea tho. i might not make it due to money issues but i'll help organise it if i can.
cyprus and lanzarote also have good reps for cheap and cheerful diving.

if malta is a serious choice then get in touch with the guys at Eastwood SAC, they went there last year!!
joe

I agree with malta. Or Canary islands?? Good diving there!
cuttlefish

if you go to malta don't stay in st julians, its not very nice...bugibba, however is very nice.

apparently the best diving around there is off the island of gozo
asahat

Yeah you hear that alot. Malta is well good for getting pissed, and sunburnt...mainly pissed. Razz
Frazer

mon the maltesers
joe

Malta it is???

Hey guys, well Mr Samson and myself have just been on the lookout for our winter holiday and the red sea aside (I'm poss off there on a paid school trip at Easter!!! haha) we are checking out both the canaries and the med. We checkout out Malta but besides my mum saying it was awful, it's also cold in winter. As linsey says Gozo is supposed to be great. A bit like Turkey with regards flora and fauna but with some cool wrecks.

Keep me posted as my teacher holidays are pretty awesome and I might like a wee trip (by keep me posted I mean that I don't often check this forum thing).

Malta's not the most scenic place although Gozo is meant to be good for diving as aleady stated.

You should seriously consider Red Sea though as the diving would be much more spectacular compared with the Med.
joe

That time of the year i guess the Red Sea will be mucho expensive. Malta and Gozo's diving has always been regarded well in the diving mags it seems.
cuttlefish

yeah but its horrible to stay in...i hated the place
cuttlefish

and the red sea will be hoaching with every diver and their granny...

south of france?
maderia?
portugal?
spain and gibraltar?

unless if u went to malta u stayed in the capital valletta, or buggiba...or even on Gozo itself
joe

None of them really have a tiny bit of good diving. Spain maybe???
Guest

Portugal, depending on what part - it's pretty cold in the water there!! Though a beautiful country.
The Canaries are where we are trying for just now, lots of diving to be found, lots to do outside, relatively cheap, easy for accom and food etc. Plus Lanzarote has a submarine!! And if I remember you can take camel rides over volcanoes, go inside caves where wee blind white crab things live and you get free drinks after your meal! Hey, I was only 11 last time I was there - I may be making this up.
joe

On behalf of the guest yes it is all very true
Liam

I've heard good things about scarborough
cuttlefish

plymouth!!!!!
joe

Only cos its just down the road liam. Linsey last time we tried to go to plymouth you stood me up
Shug

If you're serious about domestic stuff then we should go up around Gusville. We did an "awesome" few days up there a few years back. Cracking wall dives and a huge but shallow wreck. Sure there was a little incident and we ended up eating a leftover chilli/spag bol bake but it was fun Smile
cuttlefish

oh yeah! couldn't get time off work for plymouth!
next summer tho! as well as a bijillion other things!

What is it with you and Plymouth, with the exception of Jakes, it's not worth the trip.

Jakes do sandwiches

amazing sandwiches, for example burger and chips, or corination chicken.

everything is with cheese and toasted

and they have the simpsons on while you wait
Guest

but back on topic, lets go away on a plane to a place where there is a beach and bikini girls but all really fat dudes with half a leg so we can get a look in.

also a place that isn't too pricey.

or we could go to Egypt and sell spazzwell,

anyone ???

whay has no one suggested any of the greek islands?

easyjet do cruises round the Greek islands - £70 a week - a dive on every island? haha.

Plymouth has more than just Jake's it has a million surf shops, cool stores, me, the sea, free accomodation. Though if it's summer I'll hopefully be off on my 2 months summer holidays - wooo! Teaching rocks.

The water here is still about 14 degrees I believe so there may be time for a winter trip here in your long winter hols? Fly and then hire tanks and weight? Or drive with it all? Could be good.

I'm hungry, must be almost lunch tim - cya k

So what's the plan???

Diver this month is talking about Madeira. Sounds good!Sories of the mysterious lobo marino or sea wolf, the med monk seal to us lot. ONLY found there! Remote island so anything in the Atlantic can be found here. Not so popular but really good. Other stuff todo climbing surfing canyoning. Flights are £84 with TPA and easyjet are starting this summer so flights will be cheap. One company does 10 dive package for 207 euro.

Peace and merry xmas
scubaeuan

Peace? Ok Mr. McCartney.
I'm officially off the Summer holiday planning now due to work so I'll be scooting off somewhere. But I think Red Red Red Red Red Red Sea, just because It is 'apparently' a good consistent dive, much better than the Meditteranean and IT's in Africa!

Peace and a Happy NEw Year.
Guest

Just back from Red Sea and it was freaking awesome! Much wind above surface  but if you can handle a choppy boat ride it's the best.

100 euro for 3 days diving - £75? including lunch and drinks and transfers from hotel every day. Our hotel was approx £50 for the week! bed and Breakfast, had it's private beach and was away from noisy built up areas.

We found nemo, blue spotted rays, eagle ray, turtle, feather ray, GIANT moray eels, crocdile fish and every other type of colour of fish you can imagine!!

Going back for Easter, (would go back tomorrow!).

have a great christmas all xxx
joe

Any other details MR/MISS/MRS/MS guest sounds great
Guest

It's Karyn.
joe

oh hello Karyn. So gang start making decisions on a destination.
Karyn

Other details.....hmmm - what would you like to know? I found Nemo - that's all I care about - haha.
Shug

Hey Karyn, who were you diving with? Did you see any HUGE Napoleon fishes?
Guest

haha - you mean company or Graham? hehe - we went with Prince Diving (?)  found them online and booked before hand - basically they had reasonable prices and were relatively near our hotel. TUrned out an excellent choice, big boat and being December not a lot of customers. The guides were excellent with great knowledge of the area (so it appeared)

And yes we saw a HUGE napoleon wrasse - I swear he was the size of me!! It was a tough choice though as when we saw him we had a turtle of the other side of us. I liked the crocodile fish - those were awesome to look at from above. And we saw a million blue spotted rays, an eagle ray and then the BIGGEST stingray ever!!! It was a good couple of meters across and he hung around for a bit, though kept his distance. The guide called him a feather stingray on account of his tail but I cant find official record of that name. Maybe you Mr Marine Biologist can help?

Can't wait to go back (fingers crossed for Easter!!!!)

Where did you guys go and who with etc etc?

K
