weasle bay, low tide

As has been mentioned myself and charlie took a trip east last weekend.

We went to weasle loch the northerly site in Eyemouth which charlie had done as a boat dive before. The dive was incredibly scenic with sunlight streming through the kelp and the 15 meter vis ensured that we never actualy managed to the turn around point in divers hole where we intended on either dive.
The life was good like Euans the pipefish numbers were unlike anything we had seen before. Large wrasse and Saithe were hovering around and a number of blue lobsters.
A magical 2 hours 3 minutes were spent underwater and barely a second of it was either dull or cold.
The first of the dives was my 200th so it was great to get a nice dive on that one, an easy to remember dive.
Not only was the diving amazing but we were the only divers there, on a blistering hot day in the middle of july on the east coast when the sea conditions are near flat calm, not another diver in sight almost too good to be true.

So there is a reason we were the only ones. The access, particularly in the morning when the spring tide was all the way out was trecherous to say the least. The waves though tiny at sea were funneled into the bay and caused problems in getting in and out. To get to the waves was a long and troublesome large rock strewn shore. And to get to the shore was a series of in the region of 100 steps, without which the cliff face would have been impossible with scuba grear, but even with the descend and climb were very tiring.

We seemed to manage well enough with this little adversity though before we got in for the first dive Charlie decided that he needed a rest so threw his fins into the swell and waited for me to get them. After i had done that he decided i needed a rest so got tangled up in his pipes and lanyards for a while.

So after two great dives we packed up and departed only to find the caravan site where we were parked had locked its gates for the night and we were trapped in. Ah well.

Charlie has assured me he will add pictures and i'm sure will add any comments he feels suitable.

Good good

I concur: it was simply splendid diving (although a bit cumbersome on land)!

Looks grand! So many pipefish!
I think at this point in time I prefer the East to the West coast for diving. Its new and exciting and much more dramatic!

Yeah, I know what you mean.

But for shore diving it's highly limited by weather: we wanted to go to Dunbar on Sunday but not possible due to wind direction; going to the 5 wrecks, Gareloch instead.

There's now a dive site guide to Weasel Loch on the Conger Alley web site: http://www.congeralley.com/sites/weasel.htm

There are many great guides to Scottish dive sites to be found at http://www.congeralley.com/links/browselinks.php?c=10

Gives us a chance to discover new sites Smile
